Drumstick and raw mango aviyal - for our traditional dishes like sambar, aviyal, kootanchoru and vellai curry these two vegetables add a fabulous taste to it.

During summer season these two vegetables are the star ingredient in many of the dishes. This aviyal has an amazing taste with full of flavours. This easy aviyal is made with basic ingredients within 20 minutes. This murungaikkai mangai  aviyal is sure to become one of your favourite drumstick recipes. As raw mango has sour taste, there is no need to add curd or tamarind extract for this aviyal. If you use fresh drumstick and mango, the taste is awesome.   • 2 drumstick
  • half mango
  • 1/2 cup coconut
  • 2 red chilly
  • 4 small onions
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp mustard and urid dal
  • few curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • salt to taste

Cooking Directions

Cut the drumstick into 2 inch pieces and slit them. Cut the mango into finger size pieces. No need to peel the mangoes.Take a heavy bottomed kadai and add the drumstick pieces along with 1/2 cup water and cook on medium heat.

In the meantime, grind the coconut, small onions, cumin, turmeric powder and red chillies with required water.

When the drumstick pieces are half done add the raw mango pieces and cook until soft.

When the vegetables are almost done add the required salt and mix well.

Now add the grounded coconut paste and mix well. Cook until the raw smell of the cumin goes off and turn off the heat.

Heat coconut oil in a pan and add the mustard and urid dal. When it splutters add the curry leaves and add it to the aviyal. Mix well and transfer it to serving dish.
