Seppankizhangu Poriyal - Taro Root (Arbi) Fry

Seppankizhangu Poriyal  - this poriyal is prepared with taro root, chilly powder, small onions cumin garlic paste and perfectly roasted in an iron kadai. The best cooking method for this taro root poriyal is to cook the taro roots in an open vessel for 10 minutes on medium heat with a good amount of water. No one likes a mushy taro root, so just keep an eye on it and check them for doneness by inserting a knife. If you cook taro roots in a pressure cooker, it will be too soft and turns mushy. For these types of roast dishes, low heat and long cooking times are important for its texture. The small onions cumin garlic paste, adds flavour to the taro roots. Roasting the taro roots in an iron kadai creates an excellent flavour and texture.   Similar recipes Vazhaikkai Thuvattal -  Raw Banana (Plantain) Stir Fry   Mithi Paavakai Poriyal - Baby Bitter Gourd Stir Fry  Vazhaikkai Poriyal - Raw Banana (Plantain) Poriyal  Brinjal (Egg Plant) Stir Fry -...

Brinjal (Egg Plant) Stir Fry | Kathirikkai Poriyal

Brinjal poriyal is a spicy and tasty side dish for many South Indian dishes. And also, for those who want to eat brinjals simply as a starter with less oil, this brinjal poriyal is the best one. For this brinjal poriyal, pick brinjals with smooth skin and heavy in size. You can use any kind of brinjal you have on hand. Recently, I made it with green brinjals. It's hard to cook crispy brinjals with a short time of cooking. But it is possible if you cook the brinjals on medium heat with frequent turns. One more trick to get crispy brinjals is to cook the brinjals in a heavy bottomed kadai and without any water. I prefer gingely oil or groundnut oil for brinjals and for brinjal poriyal I always use crushed garlics. Serve this brinjal poriyal with lemon rice, mango rice or rasam.

Senaikizhangu poriyal is a simple and tasty side dish for any rice or kuzhambu dishes. These fries are crispy with garlic and cumin flavours. I like this senaikizhangu poriyal very much, but it takes some time to clean and cut them. So you can do this for your weekend lunch. The ingredients are very simple that are easily available in your kitchen. I absolutely enjoy this senaikizhangu poriyal with Puli Illa Kuzhambu  and I suggest that anyone who has not tasted this combination should definitely try this. For any potato based poriyal dishes, I prefer to add a good amount of garlics and cumins. The ground garlic, onion and cumin paste must be mixed well with the cooked yams and roasted well until they are evenly browned. The ground paste brings you the amazing flavours in your poriyal. It is essential to add the ground garlic onion and cumin paste for potato and plantain based dishes to relieve you from gas troubles and it promotes easy digestion. So keep this in mind and don...

Seepankizhangu Varuval - Taro root Roast

Seepankizhangu varuval is a spicy roast with flavours from red chilly powder and garlics. The seepankizhangu (taro root) are cooked in an open vessel and cut into small circles and mixed with chilly powder, gram flour, rice flour to roast it. The mixed taro roots slices  are deep fried in oil and then they are sauted with chopped garlics and curry leaves. The pressure cooking method for taro root gives you a mushy dish so I cook the taro roots in an open vessel. You can also steam the taro roots for 7 to 10 minutes. For kids we usually prepare tamarind rice or lemon rice or coconut rice for their lunch boxes. Some side dishes made with potatoes are best suitable for those kind of rice varities. We can prepare different varieties with any potatoes and the methods are endless. This seepankizhangu (taro root) varuval is the best side dish for kids lunch box.
