Mushroom pepper fry - deliciously easy mushroom dish made with onions, ginger garlic paste, curry leaves, button mushrooms and seasoned with coarsely ground pepper and fennel. I learnt this recipe from one of my neighbors and it was delicious. You can also pair it with some rice varieties like fried rice or jeera rice. You can also have this as a quick appetizer too.
For this mushroom pepper fry, first you have to do the chopping works and the grinding works. As I told you before, freshly ground ginger and garlic paste taste good for this dish. The black peppercorns are coarsely ground with fennel seeds. Now you are ready to start the cooking process. Simply adjust the spiciness more or less according to your taste. For stir frying I have used coconut oil, you can use your favourite one.

Ingredients
- 150 grams button mushrooms
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
- few curry leaves
- 2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp fennel
- 1/2 tsp mustard
- 1/2 tsp urid dal
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
- salt to taste
Cooking Directions
- Wash the mushrooms gently and wipe it with a white cloth. Cut them into small pieces.
- Take a small chutney jar and powder the black pepper and fennel. You can also crush it in a mortar pestle.
- Heat oil in an iron kadai and add the mustard and urid dal. When it splutters add the chopped onions and saute them well for a few minutes.
- When the onions turn soft, add the ginger garlic paste and stir it well with the onions.After a few seconds, add the chopped mushrooms and stir it continuously.
- Add the curry leaves and required salt.Saute the mushrooms well until it wilts. If you want, you can sprinkle a handful of water.
- When the mushrooms are done, add the coarsely powdered black pepper fennel mixture and mix it well with the mushrooms.
- Toss them well on high heat for a few seconds and turn off the heat. Transfer it to the serving dish and serve it immediately.
