Saamai (Little millet) Lemon Rice

Saamai Lemon rice - The easiest and delicious rice made with tangy lemon juice and healthy saamai millet.
This recipe requires very less effort and you can easily pack in for your lunch box.

Preparation time : 20 minutes 
Cooking time : 7 minutes 
Serves : 2


  • 1  cup saamai rice
  • 1.5  cup to 2 cups water
  • 1 or 1 tbsp juice lemon
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seed
  • 1/2 tsp urid dal
  • 2 green chillies chopped finely
  • 10 curry leaves
  • 10 roasted Peanuts
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida powder
  • 3 tbsp gingely oil 
  • salt

Cooking Directions:
  1. Wash the rice gently and pressure cook with 1.5  cup of water for 2- 4 whistles in low flame.
  2. Spread the rice in a plate and add a tsp of oil and few chopped curry leaves over the rice.
  3. Heat oil in a frying pan on medium heat. Add mustard, urid dal and saute till the dal turns golden brown. Then add the chopped green chillies,  curry leaves, turmeric powder, asfoetodia powder and continue to saute for few seconds.
  4. Now add the cooked rice, salt, roasted peanuts and lemon juice. Switch off the flame and mix well. Serve it with potato fry.

1. Generally millets require less salt and oil so be careful while adding salt.
2. You can also add 1 red chilly and 1 green chilly.
