Lemon rice with Masala Powder - Elumichai Sadham with Puliyodarai Flavour

Make this delicious lemon rice with fresh lemon and freshly ground masala powder for your lunch box this week. Lemon rice is one of the favourite lunch box dishes for my husband and I tried this new recipe with puliyodarai flavour. Here comes the lemon rice recipe with the flavours of puliyodarai but without any tamarind.  All you need for this rice - lemons, rice, chana dal, coriander seeds, red chillies, white sesame seeds, peanuts and the regular tempering ingredients. I learned this recipe from my Grandmother and this is one of my favourite rice varieties these days.  How to prepare the masala powder You can prepare the masala powder well ahead of time. Just roast fenugreek, chana dal, coriander seeds, red chillies and white sesame seeds without any oil. Grind it to a fine powder. That's it. Your masala powder is ready. When needed, do the tempering procedures and add the lemon juice. Then mix the cooked rice and the masala powder. I have used white sesame seeds in this re...

Little Millet Payasam - Saamai Rice Payasam - Millet Recipes - Desserts with Jaggery

Little millet payasam - Generally for millet dishes you don't need to spend hours and hours in your kitchen. From sweets to one pot dishes, millets require very less time when compared to other dishes. Today we are going to see a simple payasam with little millets which exactly takes just 30 minutes. It's made with little millet, jaggery, milk, cashew nuts and ghee.  There are two ways you can cook the millets. First one is pressure cooking the millets and the second one is cooking the millets directly in the vessel. To keep it simple, I have cooked the millets in the pressure cooker. Millet payasams could be made with any variety of milk as you like. I made it with full cream milk. You can also use skimmed milk, coconut milk or toned milk. All of these options result in creamy payasam. As this is a healthy dish, I prefer jaggery for this payasam. The plain white sugar also will taste good for this payasam. The final dish had a texture of thick payasam. If you want the payasam ...

Milk Halwa - Paal Halwa - Easy Dessert Recipes

Milk Halwa - if you want to prepare an easy and delicious dessert for Krishna Jeyanthi try this milk halwa recipe. This milk halwa includes only four ingredients which are easily available in your kitchen. It's very rich that melts in your mouth. If this is your first time to try milk halwa, I'm sure your whole family will love it.  The ingredients in this recipe are milk, sugar, rava and ghee. If you like to add any nuts, you can include it. Full fat milk is used in this recipe, as it gives more flavour. I have not tried it with low fat milk. The secret to the texture of this dessert lies in the addition of the rava. All you needed to do is to stir everything in the kadai. Stir continuously until the halwa thickens. Though it is easy to make, this halwa requires a little patience as it takes about 10 minutes of constant stirring in the final stage to prevent the halwa from forming lumps and sticking to the bottom of the kadai. This milk halwa tastes good for 3 to 4 days if sto...

Nenthram Pazham Pori is an instant evening snack and it just needs 4 ingredients and 20 minutes to prepare it. A traditional snack of Kerala and also in Nanjil cuisine.  I have tasted this very long time ago in a tea shop at Malamupuzha dam. Later, after discussing this recipe with my Rema athai, she shared the recipe with me. She used to prepare these pazham pori regularly, at least twice or thrice a month as evening snacks. The main ingredients used to make this pazham pori are nenthram pazham, maida, rice flour, sugar and cardamom powder. This pazham pori can also be made with wheat flour but you won't get the exact taste of it. Now a days nenthram pazhams are available throughout the year  and you can try this anytime for your kids. Few years ago, I tried this pazham pori for Aval Vikatan Nanjil recipes, but forgot to take the videos. I actually wanted to post it along with the video and yesterday tried it with just 2 nenthram pazham and it turned out very well and we all ...

Kalkandu Pongal recipe with full video and step by step pictures. Delicious pongal made  with raw rice, milk and rock candy. My mom usually prepares this kalkandu pongal  as Nai veidhyam for Friday poojas and she used to tell this as kalkandu bhath. We use big variety kalkandu (rock candy) for this pongal, but you can also prepare with the small diamond kalkandu too. To make this kalkandu pongal you will need raw rice, milk, rock candy, ghee, cardamom powder and saffron.  Step one is cooking the rice. Cook the rice in a pressure cooker with milk and water. If you are using thick cream milk, add 2 cups milk and 1 cup water for 1 cup rice.  For 1 cup rice, add 1.5 cups rock candy. Just melt the rock candies in a heavy bottomed kadai with little water and add the cooked rice. You can reduce the sweetness according to your taste buds.  When the rice has incorporated well with the candy liquid, add ghee and allow the pongal to cook until it gets thick. Add cardamom p...

Rice Kheer recipe with full video and step by step pictures. Delicious restaurant style rice kheer that's perfect for family occasions, get together or kids birthday parties. This recipe can be easily doubled or tripled if you are planning to serve for a large crowd. This is essentially my milk kheer recipe, but with a few changes. You will need a heavy bottomed kadai which gives you perfect results for this kheer. First, you will need to boil on the milk on low medium heat. While the milk is simmering, peel the blanched badam and slice them thinly. Next add the soaked basmati rice and cook the rice on medium heat. When the rice is 3/4 th done, add in the sugar and then continue to cook until soft and creamy. I have added 1/4 cup condensed milk  and you can also skip it if you don't prefe...
